What we found The problem under the stated one

Most tools force one metaphor (a doc, a database, a timeline) and thinking does not have one shape.

The cost is not felt at the start. It is felt the day a page needs to become a table, or a table needs a paragraph in it, and the tool says no. What follows is a migration, or a second tool, and the knowledge splits between them.

The other half is the link. Everywhere else a link is undifferentiated: this points at that, and the reason lives in somebody’s head.

What we built In the order it happened
  1. 01One item type carrying all of it (blocks, types, properties, named links) so nothing is converted to gain a capability.
  2. 02Named links as a first-class relation, which is the part with no equivalent in the tools this sits beside.
  3. 03Multiplayer from the ground up rather than added after: real-time editing, shared spaces, role-based permissions.
  4. 04Views as filtered apps over the same data (table, graph, outline), created as often as wanted and pointed anywhere.

What it does now Ahead of general release

A space holds documents, structured records and the relations between them without converting any of it first.

Next is a public layer: items connecting to shared world knowledge, and spaces holding a standard of quality by consensus rather than by engagement. Unize is on a waitlist, not general release.
